Beginners Workshops
The Beginners Workshop is aimed at anyone with a digital camera with a Manual (‘M’) settings option.
The workshops begin with a chat about what you want to get from the class. Each workshop is personally designed to cater to your stage of learning, whether you are a complete beginner, or someone who has had a camera for a while but wants to move away from the Auto mode to explore using the Manual mode.
The key element is having fun while learning, and the workshops are set in a variety of locations in and around the Edinburgh area.
On the day, please bring with you:
a fully charged battery in your camera, and a spare if you have one
an empty memory (SD) card in your camera, just to ensure you can take all the shots you will need
if you've got a zoom lens that would be best to bring, but don't worry if not - a fixed lens is also fine
Each of the following elements will be practiced throughout the workshop so you can grasp the fundamentals in a fun and relaxed way:
The Exposure Triangle - we will look at the effects of changing Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO and how to balance your exposure correctly to avoid bright glare or photos that are too dark
We will look at Exposure Metering, and how this can be used to impact your shots
You'll learn how to adapt the White Balance in your camera to get different colour temperature effects
You will get an understanding of the different focussing techniques, and how to focus to get the effect you want
We will look at a number of compositional techniques which will help you make your photos pop!
At the end of the workshop we review the shots taken and look at various editing options you may want to explore to further enhance your images.
